Boss Buck 200 lb. “All-In” Protein and Corn Feeders
200 pound capacity for corn or 150 pound capacity for large protein pellets. Can be used as gravity or automatic feeder. If you want automatic, you’ll need to add the automatic feeder head). Galvanized hardware with a 4-piece leg system.
You’ll love the capacity and versatility of this feeder. It’s one of the most user-friendly systems available. A maintenance-free hopper allows for corn feed in the fall and winter and converts into a protein-pellet gravity-feed system for spring and summer. Just remove the extension and add the “gravity head”. There are drain holes in the feed ports to disperse water that might enter. And an internal cone ensures that food is evenly dispensed.
This feeder is a bit more expensive than the others listed here, but we think the facts that it’s made here in the USA, it’s rugged, durable, flexible (auto or gravity feed), and is easy to setup and use that this feeder just might be the best available.

This feeder is light enough and easy enough to transport almost anywhere. It’s durable construction gives you confidence that it will last for years, and it’s short enough that it can be loaded from the ground. The down side might be that it’s tedious to set up initially, and it’s not adjustable.

Three mounting points for game cameras or solar panel. Square legs for more durability and connectivity when you want to move your feeder. Metal feeder feet are included with the Elite Tripod so you can keep it from sinking and being knocked over.
As you can see this Feeder can handle a lot of work. Since it holds up to 160 lbs of feed, be advised that you’ll want to make sure you adjust it to the right height before loading it with feed. The large feed bin allows for a longer times between refills. A Moultrie 6V Battery is required. Adding a Mini Solar Panel is suggested to keep the feeder battery charged and working as long as there’s feed in the hopper.

Photocell timer that allows for 2 feeding times per day at an adjustable rate of 4 – 16 seconds each time. Durable weatherproof quick-lock hopper with a fill height of 5.5 feet. Easy, no tool assembly. Plastic spin plate, funnel and housing.
While this is a basic feeder, it still has a built in varmint guard to keep out unwanted visitors like squirrels, etc. Bin capacity is up to 160 lbs of feed. It also estimates how much feed you have left so you know when to refill. A single 6V battery is required, and it comes with a battery power indicator and an external power port. Square legs offer great stability. 3 mounting points for game cameras up on the lid. Just like the other Moultrie Feeders, this one comes in a matt finish and 3 mounting points for game cameras up on the lid.
This feeder hits your pocket book a bit less than the other feeders, yet it still has the capacity and longevity to keep you in business. It’s not adjustable, so you just set it up, fill the hopper and get back to work. And by work, I mean watching the deer come in, and thinking of the delicious venison soon to be on the table.

Durable 30 gallon poly barrel design so there is no need to refill every day. 4 available feed times to choose from. Domed lid so no water will gather on top.
This feeder is a great mid-priced unit. While setup time is relatively short, it can be somewhat tedious or difficult to get going. There’s also no latch to hold down the lid, so the hopper could be subjected to “robbing” from some animals.
Moultrie 6.5 Gallon Pro Hunter Hanging Feeder
Diamond-shaped metal spin plate and funnel. ABS plastic housing kit can be removed easily. Easiest hang up feeder. Covered in mossy oak camo. Digital timer allows for setting precise feeding times up to 6 times a day. Portable and lightweight design. Has a 360 feed pattern for wide coverage. Requires a 6V battery. Often bought with the battery is a solar charger (recommended).
While this feeder is low impact, because it can hang almost anywhere, it is hard to refill while hanging. That means a bit of extra work to get it setup and to keep the hopper filled.
Moultrie 5-Gallon, All in One with Timer Feeder
5 gallon bucket is fully collapsible meaning you can take it practically anywhere. Programmable digital timer can disperse food up to 4 times a day. Can last up to four months in the field with 4 AA batteries. Easy to use, dependable feeder. No parts needed. Easy setup right out of the box.
When it comes to convenience this feeder is hard to beat. Quick, easy setup, no headache design, and inexpensive enough to set up multiple units in multiple places. Of course, with a 5 gallon capacity, you may want to check on it more than the full capacity feeders
American Hunter 50lb Hanging Feeder w/ AP Camo
50 pound capacity in 5 gallon bucket. Adjustable analog clock system. This portable feeder has an analog clock system that allows you to use or adjust physical push pins to set the desired feeding time. The clock works by twisting past the “click” points that trip the feeder to turn on and off. The feed rate adjusts with a minimum, medium and maximum setting that allows up to 30 seconds at max. The feeder comes pre-wired for attaching a battery, solar charger, etc. It also has options for a varmint buster zapper, remote control and LED light adapter.
At the end of the day this feeder is designed for the “budget conscious” consumer. The hardware is not very durable or reliable. You have to be really careful when making adjustments, so you don’t break anything. On the upside, if you need a feeder, and you don’t have a lot of money to spend, this may fit the bill.
When you considering a deer feeder, it’s really important to decide exactly
what you want from a feeder before you can make a decision on what is actually the best feeder. We recommend the Boss Buck 200, and of course it’s at the higher end of the price range we’ve been exploring. But there’s a lot to consider with the Boss Buck. It’s made in America It’s durable. It’s easy to use and to set up, and flexible enough to use with or without power, depending on your application.
When it comes to “economy” feeders, we lean toward the Moultrie 5-Gallon, All in One with Timer Feeder. It’s fairly inexpensive. It’s easy to set up. It’s ultra-mobile, and it just gets the job done.
Unfortunately we can’t really recommend the American Hunter 50 lb feeder. We felt it just wasn’t reliable enough to warrant a recommendation. Its saving grace is its price.
